Christmas in the Cotswolds

If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, close to nature and beautiful to stay with the family there isn’t anywhere better than Lower Mill Estate in Somerford Keynes.

They’ve certainly achieved their vision of: ‘Where the great outdoors meets the great indoors’.

The houses are all built in the same style and are surrounded by lakes. You truly feel close to nature and away from it all. They’re big enough to house the whole family and we’ve found it a great place to spend Christmas and New year with everyone together.

It’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors, there are many walks in the surrounding area, including a fantastic nature trail on-site.

There’s endless activities on site (full list here), including a spa, gym, kayaking and bike hire. The spa treatments are excellent, I can recommend the Indian head massage. The swimming pool and facilities are also excellent, we always enjoy a bracing dip in the outdoor pool over our winter breaks here.

If you fancy venturing further afield Cotswold wildlife park is a short drive away, as is Cirencester town centre.

There is a restaurant onsite, but we’ve always chosen to walk to the local village pubs for a meal out, there’s some lovely ones, but The Bakers Arms in Somerford Keynes is always a big hit. Just remember to pack your torch for the walk.

A great place to pop to whilst you’re here is the Cotswold gateway centre, it’s a tourist information centre, a place to start loads of walks, and has the best cafe, which serves excellent breakfasts (we always stop here before heading home).

I always feel 10x more relaxed after a stay at Lower Mill Estate and the beautiful surrounding areas. I’m sure we’ll keep returning for years to come.
